sprinkle compost, well-rotted manure, or other natural organic conditioners around plants and rake into the soil over plant roots. Water in thoroughly to settle the soil.
now is the time to prepare beds or spring planting by adding general conditioners such as compost. Apply a thick layer of a combination of soil conditioners on top of the planting area, and dig them in deeply. Dig up the soil to a depth of at least 1 ft. and then rake it out thoroughly to break up any clumps.
